Cold Spring Radio Says Goodbye 10/17/2011
9 Comments

Been exactly a month since my last posting.

A more glaring anniversary is that it was exactly One YEAR ago this weekend that I moved into the space at 69 Main Street.

Ouch. Had such high hopes for this endeavor.....right idea, wrong town.

But the door that shut 4 months ago has led to that inevitable window opening. I'm 6 weeks into this new creative endeavor and damn it feels GOOD!

Next weekend will be the final music broadcast. The stream may or may not return some time in the future.

I'll still do a radio show on Saturdays 1-3pm ET on www.wvkr.org or 91.3 FM in Poughkeepsie for "The Lost And Found Oldies Show".

You can also record that show at http://www.dar.fm. Just search for the show title.

To everyone who showed their support, I hope you know how much I appreciate you.THANK YOU!

Sam

You know my feelings when you stopped Mondays and Tuesdays. I said it was just a matter of time before you cut out all together. I see that time has come.

I really enjoyed being part of your "review panel". The 60's and 70s music hsa been first rate as well. (I take no credit there.)

You told me "in confidence" that you might bring back the music "some day", but I understand why you felt a need to stop totally. I think people dont realize all you put into this, Not jsut money but time.

I don't live in Cold Spring (or New York for that matter) but I have to wonder what went wrong that people there did not support this project.

Great work. Thanks again.

Thanks Terri and Allan. It WAS a lot of work but def a labor of love.

I just played the last song on CSR during the 60s portion: "Hey Western Union Man" by Jerry Butler. I'm havin' a moment here.... I had such HIGH hopes for this endeavor. I thumbed through the photos on the Gallery page; I thought about all the great things that were in the works before the speaker installation (I swear that TV is never on at 69 Main) that forced me to vacate.

I've got my theories about why there was so little support for Cold Spring Radio, but I'll keep them to myself. I will say publicly that part of the reason was that I did very little promotion (my decision) and got NO support from Cold Spring's local newspaper published by FOX News owner Roger Ailes' wife Elizabeth.

A happy by-product is that I met SO many wonderful people, got turned on to SO much great music, both new and vintage. No regrets.

Who knows? Maybe the station will return some day. Meantime I'll enjoy the 60 bucks a month I won't have to pay to Loud City for royalties.

Thanks again for listening. Til next time...,
Sam

I suggest you now reach out to PCN&R for some venture ideas. Did you really expect Ailes to lend support while you were partnered with GS?

It's business! Great concept & would also like an 80's feature.

Take care & best of luck

ps- while I asked for an 80's feature (Vince Clarke bands and Squeeze) wherever you land, my main interests are Buddy Holly, Dave Edmunds/Nick Lowe, Winwood, Clapton, dusty Springfield......).

Keep plugging!!!!!

Hey Sam,
My wife just found this site last night while looking for info on the Halloween parade. I have to tell you that in my opinion the one thing missing from having your dream become s reality in Cold Spring is an all out media blitz and Marketing campaign. I live on Main st.,just down from your station I remember passing by and wondering what was it all about but before I knew it you were gone .Marketing is strange business but I can't help but believe that if more people got involved and knew about the station you would be "living the dream ". Best of luck in all of your radio waves.

Hey Mr. Ville!

The PCNR refused to do any coverage of Cold Spring Radio even when I was up the street at 137 Main BEFORE Dot Info came into being.

This after I PAID for advertising even.

The ensuing meeting I called with the then Editor (now gone) revealed a lot. I really should write a book!

Some Saturday nights DID feature 80s Party Music. THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENTS!

Hey George!

So right about the marketing campaign!

That was about to launch July 4th when 3 new programs were to be added(Blues, Cooking, Gardening) as well as expand the local coverage to 7 days AND possibly even incorporate a Philipstown Dot Info radio news segment which was in discussion!

The time the station was up and running, I was willing to take the $$ loss to tweak, add to the music library, improve technology, etc. so that once people tuned in, they knew what to expect and would (hopefully) keep coming back.

The station had a small (but loyal) following as it was--growing from average of 4 simultaneous listeners to 22 in its prime, which is FANTASTIC for an internet radio station that had yet to market itself!

But thanks for your comments, George! If CSR ever surfaces again, I hope you'll stop by.

Sam
