I've compiled a list of the 211 Songs You SHOULD Have Heard in 2011 But Possibily Didn't.

There will be a countdown of The Top 91.3 on WVKR 91.3 FM www.wvkr.org

Part One airs Wednesday December 28 from 6 to 8pm
Part Two airs Saturday December 31 from 1 to 4pm.

Many Cold Spring/Hudson Valley acts and independent artists will be featured on Wednesday's edition while Saturday's show will highlight many veteran performers that released material during the past year but were often overlooked.

The program will conclude with The Top 10 Albums I heard while I was doing CSR and there will be CD giveaways of the Number One album.

Hope you'll tune in and Happy New Year!

Trying my hand at some production work on today's Lost And Found Oldies Show on www.wvkr.org or 91.3FM in the Poughkeepsie area.

We'll explore the "true" meaning of Christmas--heh heh. Lots of fun AND surprises guaranteed. No phone calls, though, but would LOVE your feedback at sam@coldspringradio.com

Thanks and Merry Christmas if you celebrate and Happy Holiday Season if you don't!

Owen flying solo this weekend. On the air, that is.
Me--IN the air. On a plane.
Round trip NYC to Detroit--$63. Thank you, Spirit Airlines. Now stop charging me for luggage.

Looking forward to a quickie visit with mom and sis & bro-in-law but will also meet my BIRTH mother's brother. First time I've met a biological relative. Ever. Nervous, you bet....

Co-host Owen on a cruise so flew solo. Not that I didn't miss the big lug, but I LOVED doing the show today.

Since I came back on the air, I've been tweaking with the format, trying to find the right balance of music and talk, most of it (hopefully) humorous. Today, I think I got it just right.

One caller said I was a "communicator" and I was very flattered by that. Thank you.

Musical notes...I've got every Searchers album released in the States but oddly, none of them contained the B-side of "Love Potion Number 9" --a smokin' version of "Hi Heel Sneakers" that opened the show.......Had no idea that J. Frank Wilson of "Last Kiss" fame put out such great mid-60s power pop ala The Bobby Fuller Four and today's "Not This Time" with his band The Cavaliers is just a hint of more to come. ......Speaking of The BFF, "Never To Be Forgotten" deserves to be remembered and I WILL be playing that one again.......Someone tell me why The Tymes' "Here She Comes" in all its Motownish glory was not a big hit in 1964. This Parkway release peaked at #92? Shameful........Still on my Andy Williams kick. Was going to play Jack Jones' version of "Dear Heart", but Andy's is better. Sorry. It just is. ...........Also loved the Matt Monro and Eddy Arnold tunes I played. Speaking of MM, do yourself a favor and watch "POP GEAR". A must for Mid-60s British Invasion fans........The Greyhounds continue to delight--new CD. Lead Singer Stuart Millman's hiccuping powerful vocals are a highlight on the track I played today, their cover of "Wild Saxaphone".  SEEK THIS OUT!.............And where has that Bee Gees track "Could It Be I'm In Love WIth You" been hiding? Turns out not far from my record collection at all, on a comp called "The Bee Gees 60s Collection" but under the name "Could It Be" (1964)  which means I downloaded it from EMusic for nothing. Rats.

Hope you enjoyed the new feature "Letters To The Lost And Found".  Some of you totally got where I was coming from re: commercial radio. Not many of you watch "X Factor" from the sound of things. Smart people.

Thanks to ALL who had nothing but good wishes on my bio family journey. Phones rang OFF THE HOOK, and I'm grateful for your support.  I'll let you know what happens this weekend.

Mark from Wappingers, Tom from Marlboro, Jonny The Boy, Jim from North Carolina (?!), Jackie from?, Alice from Middletown, Bill from Goshen, Mark from Poughkeepsie, Brett from Poughkeepsie, Sam The Tattoo Man, Tony V from (i forgot), Lyn The She-Devil, Karen from Poughkeepsie and anyone I might have forgot....THANK YOU FOR LISTENING and see you in TWO weeks!

Sammy

Welcome to "The Lost And Found Oldies Show" 11/27/2011

Welcome to my journey!

Based on what you hear on conventional radio, you'd think there were maybe 300 records that came out during the years 1964 and 1970. In reality it's TWICE that many that made the national charts each YEAR! And I've embarked on this (insane?) quest to listen to each and every one. Thanks to my personal collection, ITunes, YouTube and other internet sources, I'm almost able to. I'll probably need YOUR help on finding some of them, however.

I started this  adventure in September and it's fascinating as a pop music fanatic to hear how many great singles were overlooked and yes, how many deserved to be.

I'll be sharing my discoveries each week on THE LOST AND FOUND OLDIES SHOW (see HOME page to listen) as well as highlights here in this Blog. Your comments welcome. Thanks for listening!

Cold Spring Radio Says Goodbye 10/17/2011

Been exactly a month since my last posting.

A more glaring anniversary is that it was exactly One YEAR ago this weekend that I moved into the space at 69 Main Street.

Ouch. Had such high hopes for this endeavor.....right idea, wrong town.

But the door that shut 4 months ago has led to that inevitable window opening. I'm 6 weeks into this new creative endeavor and damn it feels GOOD!

Next weekend will be the final music broadcast. The stream may or may not return some time in the future.

I'll still do a radio show on Saturdays 1-3pm ET on www.wvkr.org or 91.3 FM in Poughkeepsie for "The Lost And Found Oldies Show".

You can also record that show at http://www.dar.fm. Just search for the show title.

To everyone who showed their support, I hope you know how much I appreciate you.THANK YOU!

Sam

CSR Back Online 09/17/2011

...with Sixities on Saturday. Check the Program Schedule for details.

So it's official...CSR is kaput as far as Main Street presence.

It's heartening to know the station still garners listeners, though not as many as before. I must single out 6 people who have been SO encouraging and email that they're still listening. I'll only identify you by first names as some of you have requested:

Allan
Bob
Don
Keith
Sharon
Terri

I so appreciate your support and because of you and the nameless others whose numbers show up on my nightly stats, I'm keeping the music going. Please continue to tell me your thoughts on the NEW music I play during the week so I can compile the most accurate Top 30 possible.

Meanwhile, that vay cay in Austria really cleared my head. I'm re-starting a project I began in 2008 and shelved to develop CSR. I'll be using my  stint at WVKR  to help accomplish that. Please tune in Saturdays 1-3!

I still think Philipstown Dot Infoshowed a deplorable lack of consideration and class by their actions (according to staffer Michael Turton, it wasn't all Gordon's Stewart's doing. Nice.) but that door shutting has led to a window opening. It always does!
